  No matter who the person is the one thing that everyone likes is something that is totally free. Unfortunately the only certainty in today's internet age is that alot of so called free software applications either end up costing you over time, are seldom if ever updated to fix bugs, or are very basic. Hey after all why do you think that there is a need for commercial software application.

Dont get us wrong there is lots of good software developers and companies who for one reason or another have decided to put versions of their software on the internet for free.

Ok by now you are thinking where is the free software !!! the answer to that question is right after this final word of warning and disclaimer.

  Free Anti Virus  
  With the threat of of new virii appearing daily on the internet no computer connected to the internet should be without an anti-virus application. We recommend the following but bear in mind antivirus software needs updating regularly :-  
  Avast! Free antivirus application from avast!. avast! Home Edition is a full-featured antivirus package designed exclusively for home users. We actually install this product on any custom built computer system for our non-commercial customers who dont have a specific antivirus choice that is how highly we rate this application.
  
  AVG Free anti-virus application from Grisoft. This is a fully featured version of their commercial version with some restrictions.  
  Housecall A free online virus checker from trend micro. Updated daily

  Free Firewall Software  
  The only way to make your computer completely secure is to turn it off or disconnect it from the Internet. The real issue is how to make your computer 99% secure when it is connected. Not having protection is like leaving your car running with the doors unlocked and the keys in it which a thief might interpret as "please steal me". With that in mind here is some free software firewall applications to help protect your data contained on your computer.  
  Sygate Personal Firewall Free firewall software from sygate. a cut down version of their commercial software with the advanced networking features restricted but if using as a home user these will not be high on your priority list. This is the free firewall we install on our custom built systems for customers who have not purchased or want a commercial firewall.  
  Zonealarm Personal firewall free firewall Software version of the popular Zonelabs firewall software. Probably the best known free firewall product in the world and you dont become so popular if you are not effective.  
  Windows Firewall if you have Windows XP as your operating system you have this firewall included. bear in mind this is very basic and we recommend you use another either as instead of or supplimenting it. hey its on your system you have paid for it and even a very basic firewall is better than no protection. This has been updated in Windows XP Service pack 2 Update from microsoft but as this is only recently released it would be unfair of us to comment on how effective the changes to the firewall are.

  Free Spyware Removal Tools  
  With the internet being big business nowadays it is no suprise that spyware has grown just as quickly. Fed up with sites tracking your usage, these great free removal tools will help you in your quest for some privacy.  
  Search and Destroy Spybot - Search & Destroy is an adware and spyware detection and removal tool. This includes removal of certain advertising components, that may gather statistics as well as detection of various keylogging and other spy utilities.  
  Adaware AdAware is a privacy tool from Lavasoft, that scans your memory, registry, hard, removable and optical drives for known data-mining, aggressive advertising, and tracking components  
  SpywareBlaster Spyware blaster from javacool software helps to keep spyware from installing in the first place.
